Compliance Reporting Use Case
Guardian’s key capability is to enable improved visibility of an IT estate and to get the right information to the right people. 

Our client uses Guardian as a method of reporting on compliance with the configuration requirements enforced by the US Federal Reserve. This type of reporting is arduous and complex but Guardian gives them the ability to provide detailed evidence as a simple output and removes the stress and time of proving compliance.

In addition, our client uses Guardian to generate evidence for internal reporting to their compliance board. Using this capability, they have been able to provide evidence of the improvement of their compliance over time against CIS benchmarks, showing the value that the IT team have contributed to the whole business. In addition, they have used these metrics to help plan and achieve further improvements in the quality, stability and security of their IT systems.
Process Improvement Use Case
As a critical part of our client’s change management process, Guardian provides a valuable addition to speed up change reconciliation and remediation. Guardian monitors the devices associated to a change ticket during the change window and highlights identified changes. This quickly allows the change reviewers to identify what has changed and whether the change meets the defined configuration policies. Guardian raises an incident ticket automatically for any policies that are breached, reducing the time to resolution and speeding up the successful sign off and completion of the change.
If a change ticket does not have a device attached that Guardian has detected a change against, or if a change is made outside of a change window, Guardian can create an incident ticket automatically.
This means that unapproved or accidental changes, as well as malicious changes, will trigger the incident management process and ensure quick resolution to the issue. In addition, if a device attached to the ticket did not change, Guardian can also raise this as an incident to be resolved. While this issue is not a critical failing, it helps ensure that best practices are being followed
Validation Automation
How detailed are your device build specifications? Our client has a specification with over 300 pages of configuration specifications that define the mandated configuration for each device in their IT infrastructure. The hours taken to manually confirm a newly created device meets these requirements were very high and significantly degraded the capability of the IT team to meet the business needs.
Because of the stringent regulatory pressures on our client, they had to meet the configuration specifications and Guardian provided an effective and efficient way to help ensure the quality and integrity of their devices met their needs.
Using Guardian’s policy engine, they defined the configurations specified in their build guide as tailored policies. Guardian then validates their new devices against these policies to ensure they are meeting requirements and highlighting where devices are in breach of those policies. This transforms the arduous and complex validation processes to a simple check to verify that the devices are compliant, greatly reducing the load on the IT team and allowing them to focus on delivering value to the business.
